Every spring for about 8 weeks, Keukenhof Gardens opens. It is a beautiful park with loads of flowers and walking trails. It is absolutely breathtaking! If you ever are in Holland during the spring, it is a must see.
Tulips originated in Turkey, but Holland capitalized on the selling and trading of them. The word tulip, is the Turkish word for turban. In the mid 1600's, Tulipmania hit Amsterdam, and they became very valuable and used in trading. The multi colored ones were especially rare. Having tulips in your home, was a sign of wealth. They soon became more prevalent and the trading market for them crashed and many people lost all their money and business.
