Snow, snow, snow!!!

We have had so much fun playing in the snow!
We woke up yesterday to a few inches of snow and by 9:00am we had made snow angels, had a snowball fight, made a 'Dutch' snowman, and had warmed up with hot cocoa. (Dutch snowman: tiny little snowman because it never snows enough to make a big one.)
Today, it began to snow again and we got several more inches. The unusal part for Amsterdam is that the snow is not melting. It is very rare that it stays for more than a few hours. Everyone was out playing in the snow today. From little kids to adults, everyone was having snowball fights, pulling people on sleds, and making snowmen. There are a half a dozen 'Big American' (see earlier post to get the joke) snowmen on our block.

We would love to be able to skate on the canals, but it doesn't look likely with all of the snow. Last year the canals froze in Amsterdam and everyone went skating on them. It was the first time it had happened in 12 years.

We hope Chris will make it back from the U.S. in time to see the snow. He has been stuck in D.C. since Friday in the 'historic snowstorm.' He says he really doesn't mind if he misses the snow-he's seen enough in D.C.
