Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany Germany is known for their Christmas Markets, so we thought we should experience them, not to mention, sample the local fare of bratwurst and beer! Our first night we went to the Medieval town of Rothenburg. It is a quaint, walled city that was first inhabited in 1142. At one point, it was the largest city 
in the empire. The city was bombed by the allied forces in 1945 and over 40% of the old buildings burned.

We took a walking tour with the 'Night Watchman' which was filled with great stories and history of the town. The other part of our visit was spent walkin
g the wall around the city, enjoying the Christmas stores and decorations, and eating at the Market (what's the legal limit of bratwurst?) We highly recommend the Hotel Klosterstuble: bunk beds for the kiddos, great location and a breakfast beyond compare.

we headed to Coburg and stayed in a Hohenstein castle. It was a picturesque drive, as we could see the castle through the trees on top of a hill. There was only one other couple staying there and the girls were a little worried about being in a big, cavern
ess castle by ourselves. The rooms were very grand, including a stage in the girls room. Of course, we could not pass up the opportunity to have a show...Germany is a wonderful country. We look forward to going back again!
